Vikings is an epic historical drama television series created and written by Michael Hirst. The show is inspired by the sagas of Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the best-known legendary Norse heroes, and follows his adventures and those of his crew. It aired on the History Channel in Canada, the United States, and Ireland.
The first season of Vikings premiered on March 3, 2013 in Canada and concluded on April 28, 2013, consisting of nine episodes. Season 2 began airing on February 27, 2014 in Canada and concluded on May 1, 2014. In January 2015, it was announced that Vikings had been renewed for a ten-episode third season to air in 2015. On March 12, 2015, History renewed Vikings for a fourth season of twenty episodes. The fourth season premiered on February 18, 2016 in Canada and concluded on February 1, 2017. On December 5, 2017 it was announced that History had ordered a fifth season of twenty episodes set to air in mid-2018 with production beginning that April in Iceland; it will be shot back-to-back with the sixth season which was ordered at the same time.
So far there has not been an announcement about a seventh season of Vikings. However, considering that seasons five and six have already been ordered by History, it is likely that there will be a seventh season at some point in the future.
