The average height for a Viking was about 5’7″ – 5’8″ (170 – 172 cm), while the average height for an Englishman was 5’5″ – 5’6″ (165 – 168 cm). So, Vikings were taller than the average Englishman by about 2 – 3 inches (5 – 7 cm). However, there were also many tall Vikings and tall Englishmen. For example, the famous Viking warrior Ragnar Lodbrok was said to be 6’6″ (198 cm) tall, and the famous Anglo-Saxon king Alfred the Great was said to be 5’9″ (175 cm) tall. So, there was quite a bit of variation in height among both Vikings and Englishmen.
