The Vikings were a Scandinavian people who lived in the north of Europe during the Middle Ages. They were known for their skill in warfare and their ability to sail long distances.
The Vikings first came to prominence in the late 8th century, when they began to raid and plunder other countries. This continued for over 200 years, until the 11th century. During this time, the Vikings became one of the most feared peoples in Europe.
However, by the 11th century, the Viking age was coming to an end. The Vikings had started to settle down and build settlements, rather than just raid and plunder. This made them less mobile and more vulnerable to attack.
In addition, the kingdoms of Europe were becoming stronger and better organised. They were able to mount better defences against Viking raids. The Vikings were also facing internal problems, such as civil wars between different Viking clans.
All of these factors contributed to the decline of the Viking people. By the 13th century, they had disappeared from history.
